Why are Growth and Development Checks such a big deal?

These check-ups are specially designed to monitor your child's major domains of growth and development – from big movements like gross motor skills (think arms and legs) to little movements like fine motor skills (hello, fingers!), social and emotional interactions, and speech & language skills – all covered!

Scheduled at crucial ages, these checks help us as parents and the health professionals ensure your little one is growing and developing as expected. They are great help you know what your little human is likely up to AND they are also an amazing opportunity for early identification of any challenges in these areas. 

Why do we even need to have these check ups?

Did you know that early identification and early intervention is KEY to better long term health outcomes with your little ones? 

The "wait and see" approach is rarely helpful and so often there are some simple things we can do that can help promote your child's growth and development.  

We have check ups at specific ages and stages so we make sure everyone is running along smoothly and if there are a few hurdles, we can get support sooner. My favourite part about the growth and development checks is that I get to check in with YOU mumma. I like to see how your going, how your finding motherhood and how you are looking after yourself. 

My job as a child health nurse isn't just to make sure your baby is walking, talking, eating and sleeping... my job is to also make sure your ok, your supported and you are thriving in your motherhood season.

Psst... GPs are awesome for general stuff, but when it comes to child growth and development, Child Health Nurses are the real experts! We've got more time in our appointments, ensuring a thorough health check (if I do say so myself 😉).
